In case you had missed it, the FSA is tightening its grip on small firms. Small firms are flavour of the moment, possibly because the FSA received a 'slap' for only paying attention to big firms over financial crime issues and if you thought that being small meant a quiet life, you’ve got another thing coming. There is no escape.
FSA Sets Out Its Stall - 4,000 Visits per Year!
The FSA is increasing supervision of small firms in March. Falling in nicely with their Treating Customers Fairly deadlines. For those of you in Northern Ireland, you already know when your contact or visit will be. For the other 11,000 retail intermediaries, we can all expect a call or visit within 3 years from 2008. There were 3,000 assessments in 2008, rising to 4,000 per year in 2009. According to the FSA 25% of firms receive full visits after their initial review and the message from them is clear – “It is imperative that firms engage with TCF and drive up standards”.
